On 4/12/2015, I ran a half marathon in Pyongyang, North Korea with a time of 2 hours 19 minutes. I almost didn't finish it because the North Korean guards stopped me from running the last lap in the stadium even though I didn't exceed the time limit. We were first trying to argue and insisted in finishing the last 300 meters but the guards said our time has been recorded already and we didn't need to continue to run anymore.
They just didn't understand how important it was to finish the 21.1km for us. So in the end, we fought through the angry North Korean guards and sprinted the last 300 meters with them chasing behind us!!!! When we crossed the finish line together, nothing can describe the awesomeness of that moment.
We made a wish to never forget the moment, and I will never forget how determined I was, and how empowered I felt.
There is nothing I cannot do!! I am Elaine Wang and I know I am amazing!! At least at that moment!!! :) I think I will be fine. Soon. One day. The new beginning.
